I didn't meet Johnny but my husband did when JD was filming POTC in 2002. My husband worked nearby and because of his job, he had access to the set. Whenever he worked, he and his coworkers would visit the set and watch them film. One day he was walking to the food tent and passed a guy. My husband turned around and called out to the other guy, "excuse me, are you Johnny Depp?" The other guy turned around and walked toward my husband and said, "Yeah, I am." My husband didn't recognize him since he was dressed as Jack. Anyway, they made small talk, my husband told JD we enjoy his movies and that his wife (me) really dug him (JD). He said JD just laughed and said thanks. He asked my husband about his work and before they ended their convo, they each said "nice meeting you" to each other and shook hands. Later my husband found out that people weren't supposed to talk to JD and when he stopped JD, JD was on his way to film his scene so he held up production for a few minutes...oops! My husband said he was surprised at how nice and down to earth JD was. There were many times my husband would call me on his cell and he would torment me by saying, "Johnny's just a few feet away from me!" I didn't get to go on the set because just by the nature of my husband's job, he could get in without explanation, but there's no way they could have cleared me. To make a long story short, my husband was able to get me an autograph. He even heard JD say, "What should I write?" His coworker got pictures of the set and the extras, but none of the principals because security was pretty tight. He snuck a pic of JD from a distance, but it was too dark and it didn't come out.
